Which Tests Are Available?

Soil Tests
  • Standard Mehlich 3 soil test – This includes tests for pH, organic matter, Ca, Mg, K, Na, P, S, B, Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn and Al.  The TCEC is calculated along with the percentage base saturation of the cations, Ca, Mg, K and Na. This is a soil reserve test, reporting the amount of each element available in the soil reserve.  This test is not suitable for fizzy or calcareous soil.
  • AA8.2 soil test – This is the same as the standard Mehlich 3 test except it is suitable for for fizzy or calcareous soil.
  • Saturated Paste Test – This includes tests for pH, soluble salts, chloride, bicarbonate, S, P, Ca, Mg, K, Na, B, Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn and Al using water as the solvent.  This test identifies the amount of soluble nutrients present in the soil.  It is a test for short term availability of nutrients.  It is best to supply irrigation water to the lab for this test.
  • Additional micro-nutrient test – This tests for soil reserves of Co, Mo, Se and Si and includes the electrical conductivity (EC) of the soil. This test is recommended when both a soil reserve and a saturated paste test are ordered.
Irrigation Water Tests
  • Irrigation water suitability test – This test includes pH, hardness, conductivity, SAR, Ca, Mg, K, Na, Fe, B, P, nitrate, total alkalinity, carbonate, bicarbonate, chloride, sulfate and salt concentration. This is a good test to identify any potential problems with irrigation water that may need to be addressed.  It is very useful in conjunction with the saturated paste test using the same water, since it helps to identify the source of soluble nutrients.
  • Irrigation water monitoring test – This is the same test as the irrigation water suitability test except it does not include tests for P and nitrate.  Also, adjusted SAR and pHc are not calculated.

What Types of Analysis Are Available?

  • OrganiCalc for Vegetables – We provide you with a set of OMRI organic amendment recommendations designed to balance the mineral content of your soil.  The recommendations are based on your Logan Labs standard Mehlich 3 or AA8.2 soil test and are aimed at providing a generous, balanced soil reserve of all plant-essential elements. Here is a sample report.
  • OrganiCalc for Cannabis – Optimized for living soils growing cannabis, we provide you with OMRI recommendation to balance the mineral content of your soil, safely and organically.  Many cannabis growers also include a soil-paste-water analysis prior to each grow in order to also understand their soluble mineral situation.
  • Soil-Paste-Water Analysis – This is an add-on to an OrganiCalc recommendation, for use when a Logan Labs saturated paste and (optional) water test report are also available. The report puts the soil, paste and water data side by side to highlight areas of concern (see sample report).  Erica and Alice read your report and include written recommendations.  A phone consultation is included.
  • Subscribe to OrganiCalc for Vegetables – Do you have multiple soil test results to get recommendations for?  You may want to enter them into OrganiCalc yourself.  Head on over here to subscribe.

Why order tests through us?

Ordering your Logan Labs tests directly from us saves you money! Our easy to understand order forms ensure that you are getting the correct tests for your situation.

What test data do we store?

We store soil, saturated paste and water tests for our customers who order Soil-Paste-Water analysis, along with their analyses.  That way we can include water test data in future analyses without needing to repeat the water test, if the water source is stable.  We may also be able to compare mineral recommendations over time, to see if trends are appearing.

We may not store all OrganiCalc recommendations that come our way through our subscription service.  We encourage our customers to store these for themselves.
